UNSCHOOLING & ALT ED | DIGITAL MARKETING | ECONOMICS & LIBERTY
I am a primary school teacher turned alt-ed advocate from the Central Coast of New South Wales, Australia. I graduated the University of Newcastle with Honours in 2014 and taught for a year.
I quit because I knew I’d never be able to reconcile my personal values with controlling and coercing kids. Authentic learning can only happen when people are free to pursue their own passions and interests. Force, threats, bribes, rewards, and punishments are as unnecessary as they are damaging to children’s mindsets and mental health.
Wanting something more, I applied to Praxis—an entrepreneurial business apprenticeship program for young people who want a practical, relevant, and real-world education. Participants are placed at high-growth startups, get one-on-one mentoring with advisors, and join a community of like-minded entrepreneurial young people. Joining Praxis was the single most significant thing I’ve done for my career, education, and future.
After graduating Praxis in November 2016 I launched UnschoolHQ, a growing project that aims to support and guide parents on their unschooling journey. I am also the ‘Marketing Machine Mechanic’ at the business I was placed with for Praxis, Practice Paradox.
My hobbies range from archery, to learning and writing about alternative education and Austrian economics, Path of Exile (video game), web design and digital marketing, and growing my own fruit & veg.
